Why We Need to Connect With Our Emotions (Even the Messy Ones)

Let’s get something straight: emotions aren’t the enemy. They’re messengers. And yet so many of us have been trained to treat them like uninvited guests to push them down, ignore them, slap a smile on and crack on. But that disconnection costs us, big time.

What happens when we don’t connect with our emotions?

We get numb.
We make decisions from fear, not truth.
We stay in the wrong jobs, the wrong relationships, the wrong versions of ourselves all because we’re not tuned in to what we actually feel.
We get physical symptoms too. Headaches, tension, fatigue. The body keeps score when the heart gets ignored.

Connection isn’t weakness, it’s intelligence.

Emotional connection isn’t about crying in public or talking endlessly about your childhood (though it can be if you want). It’s about recognising what’s actually going on under the surface. It’s the difference between reacting and responding. Between spiralling and self-awareness. Between being run by your past and choosing your present.

And here’s the truth no one tells you: The emotions you’ve been avoiding? They’re not here to hurt you. They’re here to guide you.

Anger might be showing you a boundary that’s been crossed.
Sadness could be asking for rest.
Fear might just want reassurance.

When we stop fighting them and start listening, life gets clearer, quieter, stronger.

So, how do we start reconnecting? It’s not about doing it ‘right’. It’s about noticing. Slowing down long enough to feel what you feel. Saying “this is here” without rushing to fix it (after all your not broken)

Whether it’s through breathwork, journaling, or a cup of tea and a good swear, the point is to feel. Because when we connect with our emotions, we connect with ourselves. And from there? Everything else gets easier.

Need a hand with that? This is where my work comes in. Whether it's through a Tarot/Soul Card Reading, Kinetic Shift, or good old-fashioned honest conversation in the hub, I help people reconnect with themselves, safely, gently, and without the fluff.

If something in you knows it’s time to stop stuffing things down and start listening in, you know where I am.
